Castle Peak is the highest peak in the Elk Range and one of the easier Elk 14ers — class 2 with no major scrambling on the standard route. It's typically climbed with Conundrum Peak.
Standard Route
From the Castle Creek 4WD road (passenger vehicles can reach Pearl Pass area), the trail climbs through a high basin to the summit. With shorter approach options via 4WD, the route can be 7-14 miles round trip.
What to Expect
Castle Peak is the easy Elk 14er — class 2 with a defined trail. Most climbers also tag Conundrum Peak via the connecting ridge. Avoid the steep snow couloir variant unless equipped for snow climbing.
