Mount Antero is famous for its gem-bearing geology — aquamarine crystals have been mined from its slopes for over a century. The standard route follows a high 4WD road for much of the climb, making it possible to drive to 13,800 feet with the right vehicle.
Standard Route
The Baldwin Gulch 4WD road climbs from 8,500 feet to 13,800 feet over 8 miles. Most climbers without 4WD walk the road. From road's end, a short ridge climb leads to the summit at 14,269 feet.
What to Expect
If you have serious 4WD, this is one of the shortest 14ers in Colorado. Without it, expect 16 miles round trip walking the road. The summit has views into the Arkansas River valley.
