Sunshine Peak is paired with Redcloud Peak via a connecting ridge in the Lake City area. Most climbers do both peaks in a single day.

Standard Route

From the Silver Creek-Grizzly Gulch trailhead, the trail climbs to Redcloud's summit then traverses south along the ridge to Sunshine. The combined route is 15 miles, 5,200 feet of cumulative gain.

What to Expect

The traverse to Sunshine is class 2 but exposed to weather. Most climbers do Redcloud first then continue to Sunshine — committing to the traverse means returning over Redcloud's summit or descending steep terrain.
