Mount Wilson is the highest of the three Wilson peaks (Mount Wilson, Wilson Peak, El Diente) and one of the harder 14ers in the San Juans. The standard route involves a class 4 summit pitch on rotten rock.
Standard Route
From the Navajo Lake Trailhead, the route follows Navajo Basin to the Wilson-El Diente saddle, then climbs the north slope to the summit. The final 200 feet are class 4 with poor rock quality. 16 miles round trip, 5,100 feet of gain.
What to Expect
The summit pitch is significantly harder than most 14er trade routes. Wear a helmet, climb early, and have an experienced partner. The El Diente-Mount Wilson traverse is one of Colorado's classic technical ridge routes.
