Mount Eolus is the most technically difficult of the Chicago Basin trio, with a class 3 'Catwalk' ridge traverse on the standard route.
Standard Route
From Chicago Basin camp, climb to the Eolus saddle then traverse the exposed Catwalk ridge to the summit. Most climbers combine Eolus with the nearby North Eolus on the same day. 17 miles round trip from train, 5,800 feet total.
What to Expect
The Catwalk is genuine exposure — a narrow ridge with significant drop-offs. Not technical climbing but committing scrambling. Wait for dry conditions.
