Mount Evans (also called Mount Blue Sky) is unique among 14ers because a paved road runs nearly to the summit. The standard hiking route via the Sawtooth Ridge connects it to Mount Bierstadt for a class 3 traverse day.
Standard Route
Without using the summit road, the most popular hiking approach is via Guanella Pass, traversing the class 3 Sawtooth Ridge from Mount Bierstadt. 10.5 miles round trip from Guanella, 3,800 feet of gain.
What to Expect
The Sawtooth Ridge is exposed class 3 — not a casual outing. The summit road provides access for visitors who don't hike, but most climbers prefer the wilder approach via Bierstadt.
