Mount Democrat is the first peak of the Decalibron loop and a popular standalone climb. The standard route is short and well-defined, making it a good early-season pick before the high country fully melts out.
Standard Route
From Kite Lake Trailhead, the trail climbs steadily to the Democrat-Cameron saddle at 13,400 feet, then ascends Democrat's north slope to the summit. 7.5 miles round trip if combined with the full Decalibron loop.
What to Expect
Democrat is class 2 with some loose talus near the summit. Best climbed as part of the Decalibron loop — climbing it alone is less rewarding given how close the other three peaks are.
