Humboldt Peak is the easiest Sangre de Cristo 14er and a great introduction to the range. The standard West Ridge route is class 2 with no significant scrambling.
Standard Route
From the South Colony Lakes trailhead (4WD access), the trail climbs to the lakes then ascends the west ridge to the summit. The trail is well-marked and the ridge is wide. 11 miles round trip, 4,300 feet of gain.
What to Expect
Humboldt is the easy one of the Crestones cluster — recommended as your first Sangre peak. The views of Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle from the summit are some of the best in Colorado.
