Challenger Point is officially ranked as a 14er based on prominence rules and is typically climbed alongside Kit Carson Peak as a two-summit day.
Standard Route
From the Willow Creek Trailhead near Crestone, the trail climbs to Willow Lake then ascends the steep north face to Challenger's summit. From Challenger, climbers continue along Kit Carson Avenue to Kit Carson Peak. 12 miles round trip for Challenger only.
What to Expect
Challenger's summit pitch is class 2+ with some loose rock. The traverse to Kit Carson is the route's signature feature. Most climbers do both peaks together; few attempt Challenger alone.
